Change.org Joins the FREE GLENDA Campaign
“Unlike so many others behind bars, Glenda Crosley not been forgotten. Olivia Klaus featured her story in the 2009 documentary she produced and directed on battered women behind bars, Sin by Silence – and now she’s working to get her freed, launching a campaign to convince California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to grant Crosley clemency before he leaves office.
“Glenda is an incredible woman and survivor,” Klaus tells Change.org. “She endured 24 years of an abusive marriage only to be punished by the judicial system for protecting her life. Yet, her case unfortunately falls through the cracks,” she says. “[H]er trial was the first in the state of California to utilize the defense of Battered Woman’s Syndrome, which wasn’t an actual legal defense until 1992…. Her judge even instructed the jury to disregard the factors of abuse that led up to the crime.”
