The Journey Begins
After almost 8 years of working on this labor of love, it is all coming down to tomorrow morning. When I wake up a new chapter of SIN BY SILENCE begins. An exciting chapter. A chapter that is already stressing me out, but also very exciting. Our team is leaving for the Cleveland International Film Festival to finally release what has taken nothing less than actual blood, sweat and countless tears! Nervousness has set in to make sure that I have checked my list of things I need to bring at least 20 times. Excitement has set in to finally be able to sit in a filled theater, have the lights turn down and finally unveil a message that needs to be heard. A message that will change lives and communities. A message that is vital with today’s breaking news.
This is a crucial moment with domestic violence being discussed every day due to the Rihanna/Chris Brown situation. Are they together? Did they break up? Did she take him back? Why doesn’t she just leave? Rihanna has some tough decisions to make, and I am sure it does not help the situation when every form of media is victimizing her again and again on a daily basis. Yet, I do think this provides us all a perfect opportunity to realize that no one is immune to domestic violence. Abusive relationships can happen to anyone! We are all vulnerable to possibly fall in love with someone who could potentially hurt us.
Yet, what is important for me to remember is that there couldn’t be a better time for SIN BY SILENCE to be released. Utilizing the stories of the amazing and powerful women of CWAA allows us to learn about the dangers of abusive relationships firsthand. So, the excitement builds as the morning comes closer. This project had a long journey for a reason because our timing is perfect; and we hope that you will join us in helping spread the word as we continue to book screenings across the county. Because if only one person can hear the ring of truth and understand her own choices – lives would change, women’s roles would transform, and the next generation will be different.
