Hello Ohio
I think that it is very fitting that we are here in Cleveland right now for our debut. Ohio is really where the story of SIN BY SILENCE begins.
In 1990, Governor Celeste was the first official to recognize the plight of women incarcerated for crimes of domestic violence. He was the pioneer in taking a closer look at these types of cases and specifically addressed the wrongdoings of these women’s’ original court trials. The results were the release of 25 inmates. This sparked the fire for the women of SIN BY SILENCE and Convicted Women Against Abuse to start the efforts they did within the state of California in the early 90’s.
So, when I got the news that we were accepted into CIFF, it seemed very fitting that we begin the journey of bringing this film to the public in the state that started the clemency movement for all convicted battered women. I’ll keep you posted on how the first screening goes on Sunday.
