Don’t Be A Hater
How on earth do we allow such upstanding, eloquent people to be role models for the youth of America? Someone who releases a public statement with such perfect diction as “everybody that’s haters…they just be haters.” and “I ain’t a monster” in defense of him using his girlfriend as a punching bag deserves to be revered, does he not?
The fact that Chris Brown is showing absolutely no public remorse for beating Rihanna into an unrecognizable pulp should make everyone sick. Or in his articulate terms “be haters,” instead it seems that he’s got more fans than ever. And we wonder as a society why things like domestic violence is so rampant. Its obvious from this video of Chris Brown that there is no remorse at all; and that we are expected to just turn the other way and ignore the fact he in fact committed a crime against a woman that he was supposed to love – and the sad thing is, many people do. It won’t stop them from buying his albums and concert tickets, and seeing the pictures of his handy work left on Rihanna’s face won’t make their stomach turn. He will go on with life as if nothing has happened. Like he said, he’s releasing AND endorsing a new single and album while she will be scarred with what happened for the rest of her life.
This situation should have had a way bigger impact on the mindset of the public than it did. The fact that it didn’t should make us all very concerned for how the public views domestic violence. When something like this happens, in the public eye in lives of celebrities, it is a reflection of what goes on in the lives of millions of women every day. Considering the way the American public in general reveres celebrities, they should have been outraged. And therefore been forced to take a look at the issue of domestic violence as a whole and how it affects everyone. Instead, they have basically turned a blind eye to the subject. If someone who has captured the attention and affection of the youth of America does something as heinous as this, and gets away with having the attitude that it’s no big deal, what hope do we have to stop it from happening in the future?
